Our Montessori Philosophy

At Escuelita Bocana, we implement the Montessori method to offer a holistic approach to education. Our academic instruction is integrated with the nurturing of each child's developing personality, guided by our core values: social, emotional, cognitive, and physical growth.

Social: In the Montessori environment, children are essential members of a close and caring community. The diverse mixed-age classroom typically spanning 3 years recreates a family structure. The older students thrive as mentors and role models to their younger peers. The younger children feel supported and gain confidence as they observe and model after the older children. The teachers in the classroom environment are there to model respect, compassion, and understanding as they foster a nurturing environment for growth.

Emotional: Montessori education helps children with their emotional development through activities surrounding relationships and interactions. Through Grace and Courtesy lessons children are taught to appropriately communicate their feelings and learn how to interact socially in a respectful manner.

Cognitive: From an early age Montessori students develop order, coordination, and independence. The children’s environment, the materials, and their daily routine help support their emerging self-regulation. The coordination of the brain and the muscles working together allows the child to develop thoughts from the information the child receives by moving and interacting with the world.

Physical: As children grow, developing their body movements becomes vital for their learning and independence. With focus on balance, strength, and developing their gross and fine motor skills, children in the Montessori environment are constantly honing their physical skills. From running on the playground to holding a pencil, physical awareness and movement are integral parts of the Montessori learning experience.

Through this comprehensive approach, Montessori provides fundamental skills that help to prepare children for life, equipping them to become successful, well-rounded adults.
